Welcome to the blog of Ing. Filip Hokeš, Ph.D., created to support on-campus and blended instruction in structural mechanics delivered by the Institute of Structural Mechanics at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Brno University of Technology. The posts are the author's personal initiative, are not official institute teaching materials, and serve as handouts for exercises and lectures as well as supplementary reading for interested visitors.
In the current winter semester AY 2025/2026 I teach the blended courses BDA002 "Elasticity and Strength" (bachelor) and NDA015 "Elasticity and Plasticity" (master). Throughout the semester I will keep the Teaching tab updated with materials for each of the six lectures in both courses (starting on 19 September 2025).
During the previous summer semester AY 2024/2025 I provided on-campus teaching in BDA001 "Fundamentals of Structural Mechanics" (bachelor) and BDA003 "Statics 1" (bachelor). Materials for every course will continue to appear in the Teaching tab as the semester progresses.
If you disagree with any of my statements I appreciate any feedback. I hope the materials will be useful.

Teaching
Within my teaching duties I lead exercises in Statics 1 (influence lines, unit-load method, force method), Statics 2 (deformation method) and, newly, Fundamentals of Structural Mechanics. I also lecture for blended students in BDA002 (Elasticity and Strength) and NDA015 (Elasticity and Plasticity).
In AY 2025/2026 I deliver the lectures for blended students in the above courses. Teaching starts on Friday 19 September 2025 and will run across these six lecture days: 19 Sep, 3 Oct, 17 Oct, 31 Oct, 14 Nov and 28 Nov, with the credit test assigned on 12 December 2025.
Lecture 1 (introduction to elasticity and plasticity, initial assumptions, computational models, fundamental quantities, governing equations for 3D and 1D members)
Lecture 2 (stress transformation, principal stresses in 3D and 2D, plane problems, plates, plate-shells, shells)
My research focuses on structural optimization and its applications to building structures. I implement optimization algorithms as part of this research.
Projects
I regularly participate as a member of research teams in projects funded by public sources.
Currently active projects:
Project name
Advanced software tool for the design and analysis of concrete and composite structures, accounting for construction stages and time-dependent effects
Project code
FW03010260
Project description
The aim of the project is to develop a unique software tool for design and analysis of complex and computationally demanding building structures. The product will enable static, stability and dynamic analysis for any construction stage and will consider rheological effects to analyze their impact on structural response. The project is co-funded by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic and the Ministry of Industry and Trade under the TREND program.
