Profile
The aim of studying in the four-year bachelor’s programme in the field of Structures and Traffic Constructions is to gain mastery of theoretical, engineering and particular specialised subjects enabling the solution of problems encountered in the context of engineering works.
Within the framework of the Civil Engineering bachelor’s study programme, the Structures and Traffic Constructions course begins with theoretical subjects within which students gain the necessary level of knowledge to cope with the specialised construction and engineering subjects that follow. Economics and social science subjects are also part of the syllabus. In the final two semesters of study the student chooses a narrower field of specialisation within the field of Structures and Traffic Constructions, choosing from the design of concrete and metal structures and bridges, the construction of structural foundations, the design and technical layout of roads and railways, the testing of construction materials, and the technologies used in construction works. The taking of specialised subjects provides students with the necessary deepening of theoretical and specialised knowledge to build their professional profile and is also a prerequisite for their ability to utilise an independent and creative approach when solving the specific problems of their field. Under the specialised and methodological supervision of a tutor, students independently produce an individually assigned bachelor’s thesis concerning a specialised and demanding problem, and then defend it before a commission for the bachelor’s Final State Examination. A specialised discussion on the subjects covered by the given field of study is evaluated at the same time as students’ understanding and ability to apply their knowledge to solving technical problems encountered in industry.
Learning outcomes
Graduates from the four-year Civil Engineering bachelor’s study programme in the field of Structures and Traffic Constructions are, after completing their studies, engineering graduates with an education in the field of traffic structure construction.
On the basis of their independent production of a bachelor’s thesis and its subsequent successful defence, graduates obtain the title "bakalář" (abbreviated to "Bc." before their name).
During the four-year course, graduates gain a comprehensive set of theoretical and specialised knowledge from the field of Structures and Traffic Constructions. They are purposefully led through their studies to the independent mastery of special applications and theoretically-supported solutions which form prerequisites for the development of their creative activities. Graduates are thus capable of understanding and creating theoretically-supported solutions within the full scope of their complex mutual interconnectivity during the design or evaluation of structures and during their realization, and can apply the knowledge they have gained in practice in their future career. In their final year of study, students choose a specialisation from those on offer, focusing on the design of concrete and metal structures and bridges, the construction of structural foundations, the design and technical layout of roads and railways, the testing of construction materials, and on the technologies used in construction works. Through the study of specialised subjects graduates gain the necessary deepening of their knowledge within the scope of the particular issues of their field of study.
