The Czech Society for Mechanics annually awards the Z. P. Bazant Prize for Engineering Mechanics. The 2024 laureate is Prof. Ing. Drahomír Novák, DrSc. from the Institute of Structural Mechanics, in recognition of his long-standing contributions to the theory of reliability of engineering structures. Prof. Novák was selected by an evaluation committee composed of Ing. Jiří Náprstek, DrSc. (chairman), Prof. Ing. Milan Jirásek, DrSc., Prof. Ing. Jindřich Petruška, CSc., Ing. Jiří Plešek, CSc., Prof. Ing. Jaromír Příhoda, CSc., and Prof. Ing. Michael Valášek, DrSc. Prof. Novák received the award from the Chairman, Ing. Jiří Náprstek, DrSc., at the ceremonial meeting of the Committee of the Czech Society for Mechanics, which took place on 21 May 2025 in the Club of the Institute of Thermomechanics of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
