VGC001 / Figure Drawing

Academic Year 2025/2026 Institute:

The course develops creative thinking skills through the study of drawing the human figure. It focuses on mastering the art of elementary relations (size, scale, canon, composition, rhythm, perspective, space and matter), as well as advanced mastery of drawing as a way of thinking and a means of expression. The acquired knowledge will help students develop the ability to sense and display space and matter as necessary attributes of architectural design.
The course will focus on practical use of English for architects working in a foreign company. Course syllabus corresponds to real-life situations, from the first day to the last day at work.

Each lecture and related seminar will have a specific topic - CV, portfolio, phone call, job interview, first day at work, communication with colleagues, communication with managers, presentation to clients, project phases, visit to the building department, notice/resignation letter, last day at work etc.

Graduates of the course will gain knowledge and practical experience through exercises. This knowledge will allow them to avoid mistakes made by university students / graduates in seeking employment abroad.
The task of the course is focused on various solutions of details or procedures that are not standardized in common practice and which are in accordance with applicable legal and normative regulations of the Czech Republic or the EU.
The output of the subject is a drawing in detail in a scale of 1: 5 and a technological description of its implementation in the range of up to five A4 pages. Specific details can be supplemented by structural and physical assessment in detail, etc.
Another output of the course can be a text document describing a special technological process of assembly, production, etc., with a range of 15-20 pages, which complements the explanatory pictures and diagrams.
The documents will have all the formalities, ie paragraphs, page numbers, references to citations and literature, content, etc. Submission is possible during the semester, at the latest in the credit week. It should be something that needs to be solved at work, something that you have an overview of, something that is interesting and dotical with building construction.

The course is intended primarily for students in the 3rd year of the bachelor's degree program CIVIL ENGINEERING and MUNICIPAL ENGINEERING. It is also suitable for all students who are interested in the subject matter associated with environmental protection in the vicinity of transport routes and other structures and who want to design and build in accordance with the principles of nature protection. During the course, students will become familiar with the following areas of concern: Introduction to the issue, hygiene standards and regulations. Measurement and analysis of noise and vibrations, comparison of measurement and modeling techniques. Prediction of noise levels in the cutting-edge SoundPlan software from road, rail and air transport. Application of noise and vibration control measures. Air pollution from road, rail and air transport, measurement and calculation of emissions. Waste management and environmental protection during the transport of hazardous substances. Soundproofing of walls and windows, measurement and analysis. Electromobility, photovoltaic systems, wind power plants, their basic parameters, comparison and conditions of use. The course will also include practical demonstrations of measuring selected parameters with cutting-edge instruments from Dewesoft and Bruel&Kjar and their analysis. The course will also include a demonstration of exporting measured and calculated data to GIS and BIM systems. Meetings and consultations with leading experts from practice are planned as part of the course.

A supplementary course, the aim of which is to introduce and teach students to design transport structures in the environment of professional software from the international company Bentley. The course is focused mainly on the OpenRoad and OpenRail designer software, or on related software with the following content:

Basic characteristics of Bentley software products. Longitudinal profile, elevation solution of a linear structure and its optimization, description of the longitudinal profile and elevation solution. Design of slope methods, regulations for creating a cross section, typical cross sections, display of objects in cross sections. Tilt and cant - methods and their applications. Modeling of linear structures, volumes, reports, import and export. Definition of the construction corridor, creation and display of a digital model of a linear structure. Widening of the road, rising lanes, creation of a stop. Use and placement of switches, creation of switch connections, switch house. Alignment (regression) of direction and elevation points, curvature diagrams and their use. Creation of terrain modifications, design of construction pits, landfills, or other modifications in a digital terrain model. Outputs to drawing documentation, creation of text and graphic design reports including outputs to BIM systems. Meetings and consultations with top experts from practice are planned.

Principles of word processing in word processors according to standard CSN 01 6910: fonts, elements of technical texts, formal layout of paragraphs, pages and documents. Bibliographic citations and references in the text, according to ISO 690. More complex elements of technical texts: mathematical symbols and expressions, tables, graphs and visual documentation. Content requirements of technical documentation. Appropriate technical methods of text preparation and subsequent text processing. The preparation of bitmap images for presentations construction and architectural projects. Basic techniques for creating photorealistic assembly. Drawing and modification of plane objects.
Creation of annotations.
Output of drawing to a file and to a printer.

Advanced techniques for create technical drawings in architecture and civil engineering using CAD applications AutoCAD. Custom topics: dynamic block, schedules, batch print, coordination of complex projects).

Custom user interface, working with annotation objects, dynamic blocks, blocks with attributes. Create schedules, external references, coordination of complex projects.

Creating 3D models of real objects. Basic techniques for modeling solids and surfaces. Materials, lights and complex visualization of the model.
Editing system families and create loadable families.
Stage construction and design options.
Use of materials in the statements and in the visualization project .
The course introduces technically oriented users to selected aspects of 3D printing, generative and parametric design, and 3D measurement, as part of Construction 4.0 technology pillars. Students will gradually get acquainted with the pitfalls of Internet resources of models, processing of point clouds from 3D scanners, and learning how to write G-code instructions, which will significantly shift their creativity freedom and efficiency, whether in creating models, functional prototypes or negative forms.
The teaching itself is designed for the design of line structures. Central to this is the work to create a digital terrain model, on which the overall project is based. The proposal itself consists of several steps that need to be taken. First, a directional line is created - a route. Subsequently, it is possible to make a proposal for the height guidance of the route - level. From the knowledge of the width arrangement, it is possible to create a template of a typical section and then have the cross sections calculated at given interval points. An integral part is also the design of the road tilt. These steps are essential for the final completion of the project and the creation of the corridor - 3D model.
