BHA065-A předmět zařazen v 1 studijním plánu

BPA-SIS letní semestr 3. ročník

The aim of the course is to provide fundamental knowledge of building alterations, reconstructions, modernisations, conversions, and the rehabilitation of buildings.

Lecture Outline

  1. Introduction to thecourse, basic terminology, servicelifeofbuildings, survey and documentationofthecurrentstate.
  2. Buildingsurveys and theiroutputs. Basic methods and proceduresused in structural (static, moisture-related, biological), historical, and architectural-urbansurveys. Examplesofapplication.
  3. Structuralfailuresofbuildings (cracks). Typesofcracks and causes (overloading, foundation settlement, latermodifications,etc.). Long-term monitoring, short-term and long-term reinforcement.
  4. Overviewofotherbuildingdefects: moisture-relatedissues, commoncauses and effects, biologicalinfestation, radon, degradationdue to ageingorimproperconstructionlayers.
  5. Rehabilitation and modificationofsubstructures – statics. Repair and strengtheningoffoundations. Repair and reinforcementofbasementenvelopestructures: cracks, additionalpillarsorties, etc.
  6. Rehabilitation and modificationofsubstructures – otheraspects. Elimination and preventionofmoistureingress – waterproofingrepairs, replacementofdegradedelements, additionalwaterproofing, dryingmethods. Eliminationofbiologicalinfestation (mould and fungi).
  7. Rehabilitation and modificationofmasonry and concretestructures – statics. Walls, floors, stairs, chimneys. Structuralrepairs, connectionofnew and existingelements, strengthening. Creatingnewopenings. Stairrepairs.
  8. Rehabilitation and modificationofmasonry and concretestructures – other. Repairofleaks, vegetationdamage, etc.
  9. Rehabilitation and modificationofsteel and timberstructures – statics. Repair and strengthening, partialorcompletereplacement.
  10. Rehabilitation and modificationofsteel and timberstructures – other. Moisture and biologicalthreats. Protection and improvementofacoustic and thermalproperties.
  11. Rehabilitation and repairofroofs and roofstructures. Damagedue to weather (e.g., leaks). Repairsofflatroofs, parapets, wallheads, chimneycaps, etc.
  12. Repairs and modificationsofbuildingcomponents. Windows, flashings, etc.

Learning Outcomes

  • Professional Knowledge

The student has basic knowledge of building reconstruction processes, can describe fundamental procedures for moisture remediation in structures, and understands the principles for designing roof structure renovations.

  • Professional Skills

Upon completing the course, the student is able to apply the acquired knowledge in the field of modifications of existing buildings. They can assess the condition of a structure and propose a general course of action for reconstruction and remediation.

  • Competence

The graduate is able to independently assess the condition of a building in engineering practice. They can design basic technological procedures and are prepared to deepen their knowledge in follow-up courses.
