Topics – meeting friends, appearance, the human body, clothing; letter writing, personal traits; seasons, weather, time, dates

Grammar – phrases that differ from Czech, verb conjugation, adjective declension, dates, substantivised adjectives, pronouns, phrases such as “it is necessary”, expressing years, time, and approximation

Entry Knowledge

Students should have a good command of the Russian alphabet, vocabulary, and conversation related to the following topics: introductions, phone conversations, nationalities, visiting someone, family, occupations, leisure time, hobbies, school, city navigation, means of transport, and shopping. They should also master the following grammar topics: numerals, verb conjugation, reflexive verbs, infinitive, declension of nouns and pronouns, animate and inanimate nouns, indeclinable nouns, prepositional phrases, dates, past tense, and formal address.

 

Aims

The aim of the course is to achieve a pre-intermediate level in Russian vocabulary and grammar, as well as the student’s ability to read, translate, and produce moderately complex Russian texts. The student will meet the course objectives if they reach a pre-intermediate level in Russian vocabulary and grammar and are able to read, translate, and create moderately complex Russian texts.
