Brno, 1 August 2023 - A historic event has taken place at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Brno University of Technology that will have a significant impact on the water management of municipalities and the region. Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of Brno University of Technology Prof. Rostislav Drochytka and Ing. Jan Ručka, Ph.D. signed a consent to the establishment of the spin-off Voda Brno s.r.o. The company will use an innovative patent developed at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Technical University of Technology - the Astacus robot, which enables controlled cleaning of water mains.

Astacus represents a completely new technology that brings improvements and ecological savings in the management of water supply infrastructure. Thanks to this invention, it will be possible to save water when flushing water supply networks, which will contribute to environmental protection and sustainable use of water resources.

The establishment of the spin-off Voda Brno s.r.o. brings new opportunities for further research and implementation of modern practices in the field of water management. Mutual cooperation opens the way for significant progress in the treatment of water supply infrastructure of cities and municipalities. This cooperation is expected to have a positive impact on the purity of drinking water and the improvement of the overall condition of water supply networks.

Professor Rostislav Drochytka, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, expressed his delight at this innovative project and stressed its importance not only for the University, but especially for the inhabitants of the towns and villages that the Astacus technology will serve. Sustainable water management is one of the key goals for the future.

Voda Brno s.r.o. will become an important player in water management, not only in the Czech Republic but also internationally. It will focus on the development, production and distribution of technologies for the sustainable and environmentally friendly treatment of water supply networks. The company representatives expect that the cooperation with the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the BUT and the possibility to use the patented technology of the Astacus robot will lead to further innovations and development of water management with regard to ecology and water saving.
