For this exam, the optional subjects VYN001, VYN002, VYN003 and VYN004 are offered, in which students aquire the required knowledge and skills. The exam is based on the contents of the textbooks Schritte International Band 1-4.
The exam is based on the internationally acclaimed Goethe-Zertifikat Deutsch exam on the A2 level (pre-intermediate) which requires a student to understand the most important information given in everyday conversations, short announcements on the radio and on the phone. Furthermore, students should be able to deal with short newspaper articles, notices etc., fill in simple forms and write short messages about everyday topics. In oral discourse, they should be able to introduce themselves, talk about their lives and ask and answer simple questions concerning common topics.

Objective
The aim of this exam is to assess whether students have reached the A2 level of the CEFR (Common European Framework) established by the Council of Europe.
There are two parts of this exams, written (reading, listening and writing skills) and oral (conversation on everyday topics).
Knowledge
The student who has passed the exam will have demonstrated a pre-intermediate level of German as described by the A2 level of the CEFR (Common European Framework) established by the Council of Europe.
Syllabus
In order to prepare for this exam, optional subjects VYN001, VYN002, VYN003 and VYN004 are offered by the Department of Languages at FCE – however, they are open only if there are enough students. In these courses, students will be able to gain the required knowledge and skills.
Prerequisites
Grammar and vocabulary covered in the Schritte International Band 1-4 textbooks. Pre-intermediate level reading, listening, writing and speaking skills.
Grammar: conjugation of basic verbs, personal and possessive pronouns, word order, negation, definite and indefinite article, plural, basic and ordinal numbers, time expressions, modal verbs, prepositions, past tenses, adverbs, imperative,the subjunctive, reflexive verbs, question words, conjunctions weil, wenn and dass, Konjunktiv II, declination of adjectives after the indefinite article, definite article and no article, comparatives and superlatives, the passive
Vocabulary: meeting others, introducing yourself, family, food and drink, living in a house or a flat, my day, free time, learning, jobs, travelling, body parts and health, clothes and shopping, holidays, in the restaurant, at work, sport and fitness, education and career, celebrations, culture, at the post office, city traffic, weather, travelling, accomodation, money
