The subject is designed to help students to deal with professional German texts at the B1 – B2 level according to the the Common European Framework of Reference. Students should master the key phrases of academic German as well as elementary professional terminology so that they are able to effectively find out information in professional resources. Emphasis will also be put on the development of listening and active communication skills (obligatory PowerPoint presentations on the given technical topic.)

Objective

Students will get acquainted with vocabulary related to their field of study (architecture) and with academic German. They will learn how to present and discuss their own projects.

Knowledge

Students will get acquainted with vocabulary related to their field of study and they will be able to read and understand professional texts written in academic German. They will be able to present and discuss their own projects.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of general German at B1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference.

1st week - Studying at university and application of information technology
2nd week - Civil engineering branches
3rd week - Basic engineering terminology
4th week - Building materials
5th week - Building construction
6th week - Numbers, units and measures
7th week - How to Give a Presentation in German
8th-12th week - Technical civil engineering texts involving topics from particular fields of study
13th week - Credit test
