The course acquaints with the basic issues of monument care, protection and restoration of monuments, historical ensembles, folk architecture, settlements and landscape. It describes changes of urban structures and species composition in historical time periods, used historical constructions, materials, colors and technologies. It explains the problems of the most common construction failures, necessary surveys and planning documentation. It acquaints with the development of monument care including methods used, legislation and international documents.

The aim of the course is to acquire knowledge for the conservation of historic settlements, including an awareness of methods of restoration, conservation and use of historic buildings.

Overview of architectural styles, cultural values and methods of restoration of monuments and knowledge of the structure of conservation authorities.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of the history of art and architecture, knowledge of the principles of basic tectonic systems, building materials of traditional architecture and basic structures of building construction.
