Studying and gaining up-to-date knowledge from selected problems of the water management and water structures with the support of the supervisor and other supervisors from other departments of the faculty, university and scientific and research institutes. Definition of simulation and experimental parts of PhD thesis. Publications and presentations of creative activities outcomes. Schedule setup of specific events (seminars, conferences, congresses) together with professional study on foreign research and academic institutes. For creative activities the collaboration with practice during the work on the project is convenient.
Study, and the acquisition and processing of current knowledge connected with the issues of the chosen topic from the field of specialization of programme XXX with support from a supervisor, possibly with the aid of a supervisor who is a specialist in his or her field, or with the support of experts from the following institutions:
- the Faculty (for instance, from the AdMaS research centre operated by the Faculty),
- or external research and development institutions.
The performance of simulations or experiments related to the topic area of the doctoral thesis. Publication and presentation of the outputs of creative activities.
The formulation of a semester plan of visits to professional and scientific events (seminars, workshops, conferences, congresses) and potentially study or professional stays at foreign scientific and academic institutions.
Work on publishable outputs (contributions to proceedings, articles for professional or scientific journals).
Regarding creative activities, it is advantageous to cooperate with industry or scientific institutions directly while working on projects.
Knowledge at the level of a graduate student of Water Management and Water Structures study program or similar study program. according to the PhD thesis orientation. Practice is an advantage.
Planned educational activities and teaching methods
Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.
Forms and criteria of assessment
Successful completion of the credit requires the fulfillment of the duties specified in the schedule of the subject.
PhD student under the guidance of his supervisor gains additional theoretical and special knowledge of the selected problems of hydrotechnical structures, landscape water management and urban water infrastructure in the study field of Water Management and Water Structures. Thus the conditions for his individual theoretical, creative and scientific work are set up, serving as a background for his PhD thesis.
Specification of controlled instruction, the form of instruction, and the form of compensation of the absences
Vymezení kontrolované výuky a způsob jejího provádění stanoví každoročně aktualizovaná vyhláška garanta předmětu.

Submission of a project proposal (it is recommended that this be carried out in cooperation with a doctoral student from the 2nd year of the DSP with a related doctoral thesis topic). Publishing activities (e.g. work on a contribution to a specialised conference, or work on an article for a specialised journal). Participation in professional or scientific events.
