German for Beginners II

Grammar: modal verbs, conjugation of the verb "werden", possessive and demonstrative pronouns, ordinal numerals, time expressions, prepositions of place and time, adverbs - comparatives, past tense of auxiliary verbs, imperative, subjunctive

Vocabulary: jobs, asking for directions, travelling - hotels, timetables, body parts and health, clothes and shopping, holidays

Knowledge

The student will be able to communicate in everyday situations (elementary topics). The student will achieve the target level A1 higher according to the CEFR.

Syllabus

1st week - revision, past tense of sein and haben, preposition als, topic: jobs
2nd week - time prepositions, modal verbs müssen and sollen, word order, topic: rules
3rd week - pronoun man, the imperative, topic: at the reception
4th week - possessive pronouns, modal verb sollen, topic: body and health
5th week - preposition mit with means of transport, local prepositions with dative and accusative, topic: asking for directions, at the station
6th week - temporal prepositions, subjunctive, topic: formal phrases, time expressions
7th week - other temporal prepositions, separable verb prefixes, topic: making phone calls
8th week - demonstrative pronouns der, dieser, interrogative pronoun welcher, comparison of adverbs, topic: clothes
9th week - modal verb mögen, personal pronouns in dative, verbs with dative, topic: shopping
10th week - ordinal numerals, personal pronouns in accusative, topic: dates and times
11th week - conjunction denn, verb werden, topic: holidays
12th week - revision, test

Prerequisites

Students should be familiar with grammar and vocabulary taught in the course BYN1.
Grammar: conjugation of verbs to be, to have and other basic verbs, separable prefixes, personal and possessive pronouns, word order in a sentence, negation, definite and indefinite article, plural, numbers, time expressions, modal verbs können and wollen, prepositions, past tense ("Perfekt")

Vocabulary: meeting others, introducing yourself, family, food and drink, living in a house or a flat, my day, free time, learning
