Objective

  • Gaining knowledge about creating and updating large-scale maps and their uses.
  • Get an overview of the related regulations.
  • The ability to distinguish qualitative parameters of large-scale maps.

Knowledge

Student will manage basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the creation and update large-scale maps.

Syllabus

  • Introduction, the definition of basic concepts, terminology, maps (graphical, numerical, GIS), national map series, geodetic controls, reference systems, and numbering of geodetic points.
  • Basic forms of terrain relief, ways representation of hypsography in large-scale maps, interpolation, and construction of contour lines.
  • Field sketch - creation, content, terms, symbolics, sketch completing.
  • Methods for detailed mapping. Type tasks.
  • Geodetic instruments for detailed mapping, and application of mathematical and physical corrections of measured quantities.
  • Computational processing of the measured data, methods of solution.
  • Basic and thematic large-scale maps – layout and labeling of map sheets, norms for creation, classification, content, methods of representation of contents. Digital technical maps.
  • Large scale maps – map symbols, accuracy class, testing of the accuracy, graphical processing.
  • Use of GNSS, photogrammetry, mobile mapping, and laser scanning for detailed mapping.
  • Digital models – DTM, DSM, DEM, visualizations, outputs.
  • Recapitulation, consultation.
