New Professors at the Faculty of Civil Engineering: Dean Karel Šuhajda and Karel Dvořák
On Monday, 1 June 2026, Czech President Petr Pavel officially presented appointment decrees to 93 newly appointed university professors at a ceremony held at the Carolinum in Prague. Among them was Karel Šuhajda, the newly appointed Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Brno University of Technology (BUT).
The highest academic rank of professor was awarded to university academics who met all the required qualification criteria. The appointment recognises their long-standing contributions to science, research, education and the development of their respective fields.
Two academics from the Faculty of Civil Engineering were appointed professors following nominations by the Scientific Board of BUT:
-
Karel Šuhajda, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, in the field of Building Constructions
-
Karel Dvořák, in the field of Physical and Building Materials Engineering
Karel Šuhajda took office as Dean in February this year. His vision for the faculty's future focuses primarily on open dialogue with students and staff, mutual cooperation and strengthening the connection between education and professional practice.
“I have spent my entire professional career at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, and I know that the best ideas are not born behind a desk – they emerge through discussions with colleagues and students in corridors and classrooms. I want to be a dean who listens,” says the new Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at BUT. “The faculty must be a place where no one is afraid to ask questions or be creative,” he adds.
Congratulations to both professors on their appointments and best wishes of continued success!
