Need a break between lectures, a place to heat up your lunch, finish a project, or simply switch off for a while? Here's a handy guide to the best study and relaxation spaces you'll want to know about from your very first weeks at the faculty.

The first weeks at university are all about finding your way around: locating the Study Office, classrooms (and, at FCE BUT, often the right bridges connecting the buildings), as well as discovering places where you can take a break between classes.

Across the faculty campus, you'll find study rooms, coworking spaces, and relaxation zones. To help you settle in more quickly, we've put together an overview of the places worth knowing from the very beginning of your studies.

M.zone 

How to get there

From the main Building A, walk past the Study Office into Building C. Continue downstairs to the basement and follow the signs on the walls. You'll need your student ID card to enter.

Facilities

M.zone combines a coworking space with a relaxation area, offering a comfortable environment for both studying and taking a break. You'll find a kitchenette with a coffee machine and microwaves, charging lockers for mobile phones, and plenty of space for teamwork or relaxation.

 

Meetina 

How to get there

Meetina is located on the fifth floor of Building R. On your way there, you'll feel like a celebrity: you'll literally walk along a red carpet. Simply use your student ID card to enter.

Facilities

The space is divided into two sections.

The study area features work desks, comfortable chairs, a projector, an interactive smart wall, and a library, making it ideal for focused work or group projects.

The relaxation area offers bean bags, a PlayStation, table football, darts, board games, and books for anyone looking to unwind.

Meetina also includes a kitchenette equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee machine.

 

CheeZ 

How to get there

In Building Z, walk through the glass doors to the left of the staircase, go downstairs, turn left, and continue through another set of glass doors. Your student ID card will grant you access.

Facilities

CheeZ features a kitchenette with a coffee machine, a relaxation corner with bean bags, and a coworking area for studying and teamwork.

One of its most striking features is an illuminated designer wall made from recycled waste collected directly at the faculty. The installation was created by FCE BUT graduates Plastic Guys.

 

POKEC  

How to get there

The library's relaxation zone is located in room A050 in the basement, behind the Blue Computer Study Room.

Facilities

You'll find comfortable sofas and bean bags, as well as board games, a TV, and a free book exchange shelf.

House rules

Keep it quiet. Please respect others. Someone next to you may be catching up on sleep after a long night studying structural analysis, while someone else could be preparing for an exam in the neighbouring study room.

Return everything. Please leave the TV remote under the television and return books and board games to the shelves after use.

Leave the room tidy. Whatever you bring into Room A050, take it with you when you leave.

 

Study Rooms at FCE BUT

If you're looking for a quiet place to study or work on a group project, make use of one of the faculty's study rooms.

The library study rooms in the basement of Building A offer everything you need for productive work. They are equipped with 82 computers featuring specialised civil engineering software for design, structural analysis, fire safety engineering, standards, and 3D printing, including ArchiCAD, AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, Allplan, DEKsoft, and many others.

You'll also have access to charging stations, scanners, large-format and standard printing services. Two of the study rooms can be reserved for individual or group study, as well as project work. You can also find whiteboards, markers, and plenty of power outlets for charging your devices in all the study rooms.

 

Remízek 

How to get there

Remízek is located on the third floor of Building D, directly next to the staircase.

Facilities and purpose

Remízek is not a traditional chill-out zone but a study room operated by the Institute of Building Structures. It serves as a space for independent study, project work, and consultations with lecturers on semester, bachelor's, and master's theses.

Opening hours

Remízek is open on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

You can collect the key from the Institute of Building Structures office by leaving your ISIC card. When you're finished, simply return the key and collect your student card.

 

(M)Učírna 

How to get there

This combined study and relaxation space is located in room D123 on the ground floor of Building D1, close to the lift. It is near the Institute of Technology of Building Materials and Components.

Facilities

Despite its playful name, you certainly won't find any medieval torture devices here. Instead, you'll discover sofas, work tables, and movable desks suitable for studying or relaxing.

The dining area includes a microwave, an electric kettle, a sink, and a dining table.

Availability

(M)Učírna is mainly used by students of the Building Materials and Technologies programme thanks to its proximity to classrooms and laboratories.

It is usually open from around 7:30 a.m. until the final teaching session of the day, but always at least until 3:30 p.m.
