Geodesy and Cartography

Program: Geodesy and Cartography

Profile

The consecutive two-year master’s study programme Geodesy and Cartography follows on from technically-oriented three-year bachelor’s programmes. The course starts with a common block of subjects and then, during the first year, is divided into two specialisations: Engineering Geodesy and Cadastre and Cartographic Informatics. While studying the common block of subjects, students acquire knowledge of the latest scientific and technical findings in all their complex mutual interconnectivity, and they are guided towards the performance of independent creative engineering work. They apply the knowledge gained in individual subjects in individually assigned geodetic-technical tasks concerning the problems of the given field of study. Emphasis is placed on independent and creative engineering work After completing the common block of subjects, they are able to solve even demanding specialised issues independently and are thus ready for their narrower focus on the specialisation studied in the subsequent block of their consecutive master´s studies.

Learning outcomes

After completing the common block of the Geodesy and Cartography course of study, which doesn’t focus on any particular discipline, students have gained highly specialised (theoretical and professional) knowledge in the studied field. They are capable of applying this knowledge in the solution of problems within the given field of study. They are capable, within the scope of the skills they have gained, of independently solving even demanding specialised problems (independently solving complex geodetic, technical and managerial problems not only in the construction industry) and are thus prepared for the subsequent block of studies in the selected specialisation. They begin the next (specialised) block of studies equipped with the prerequisites for the solution of complex geodetic and technical tasks. Within the scope of their competence (after the completion of the common block of subjects), they can study one of two specialisations: Engineering Geodesy, and Cadastre and Cartographic Informatics.
