Syllabus

  1. Hydrostatics and introduction to hydrodynamics (conservation of mass and momentum, Bernoulli’s equation, application of the impulse-momentum theorem), water flow in pressurized systems – pipelines
  2. Free-surface flow in open channels. Discharge through orifices and over weirs. Connecting reservoir water levels. Water flow in filters
  3. Water conveyance (water demand and consumption, water mains, pumping stations, water storage tanks)
  4. Water treatment (water quality, water abstraction, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, flotation, filtration, etc.)
  5. Wastewater conveyance (sewerage systems, sewer system structures, wastewater pumping stations)
  6. Municipal wastewater treatment (wastewater quality, mechanical pre-treatment, biological wastewater treatment, sludge management) 
  7. Industrial wastewater treatment (separation of light particles, neutralization, extraction, stripping, precipitation reactions, redox reactions, adsorption, ion exchange, clarification, etc.)
  8. Stormwater management (drainage master plans, stormwater retention, stormwater infiltration, stormwater reuse)
  9. Indoor microclimate, creation of indoor environments via HVAC systems, applications 
  10. Air transport and treatment, specific design of air handling units, applications
  11. Air duct hydraulics, material specifications, duct connections, applications
  12. Air filtration, applications
