This course provides a comprehensive overview of sustainable development, with an emphasis on the practical operations of modern organizations. The aim is to familiarize students with global and European strategies (Agenda 2030, SDGs) and teach them to identify the key environmental challenges facing today’s industry. Attention is focused on sustainability assessment, including financial reporting and sustainability accounting, as well as critical topics ranging from the management of raw materials, water, and energy to issues of air pollution, decarbonization, and waste management.

Syllabus
1. Introduction to sustainability and its significance for modern organizations (definitions, pillars, historical development, Agenda 2030 – SDGs, circular economy).
2. Sustainability within and outside the EU, sustainability strategies.
3. Pillar E – raw materials, energy.
4. Pillar E – water in industry.
5. Pillar E – Air Pollution and Industry (structure of greenhouse gas emissions within the organization, decarbonization of industry).
6. Pillar E – Energy (introduction, current status, what lies ahead).
7. Waste Management.
8. Industry 4.0.
9. Construction – inspiration for other sectors, voluntary tools (EPD, responsible public procurement, etc.).
10. Financial reporting and sustainable accounting
11. Financing environmental measures and grant opportunities.
12. New materials and technologies for sustainability (BAT, BREF).
13. Adaptation, mitigation, examples, greenwashing, summary.
