Low Energy Houses

Academic Year 2023/24

BHB047 course is part of 1 study plan

BPC-APS Winter Semester 4th year

Designing of Nearly zero energy houses and Passive houses with the use of passive solar systems. An introduction to the utilization of active solar systems and renewable energy sources. Students will be given a general layout of a family or residential house to adjust and design with satisfactory conditions. The balance of energy losses and gains will be calculated for the heating period as well as energy savings, heating expenses and calculation of the other technical indexes.

Objective

On specific task acquaints students with design methods and evaluation of the structure, which fulfil criteria for low-energy or passive house.

Knowledge

Student will design and evaluate the building, which fulfil criteria for low-energy or passive house. Including evaluation of critical details.

Syllabus

1. Principles of low-energy buildings.
2. Design fundamentals of a low-energy house.
3. Requirements for Nearly zero and Passive buildings.
4. Thermal insulation design of a building (wall, roof, floor, windows).
5. Thermal joints of constructions (foundations, floor, corner, jamb and cap).
6. Windows anad doors for passive houses.
7. Ventilation, heating and hot domestic water.
8. HVAC systems and renewable energy.
9. Computer programmes and simulations of the annual heat and cold consumption.
10. Energy legislation and certificate.
11. Air-tightness of a building.
12. Practice examples of buildings.
