Load-Bearing Structures 2

Academic Year 2023/24

BFA013 course is part of 1 study plan

BPC-APS Summer Semester 2nd year

Design of concrete elements due to service limit state, reinforced concrete framed structures, space floor slab structures, foundation structures.
Properties of a timber and materials on the basis of a timber from the aspect of utilization in building structures, Czech and foreign standards for the design of structures, limit states of timber structures, basic types of stresses of members of timber structures and methodology of their checking, joints of timber structures, plated and truss structures, space timber structures – lattice structures, space bar systems, ribbed dome, vaulted and shell structures.
Basic knowledge of soil properties. Stress in soil (geostatic, from surcharge, earth pressure), design of shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, jet grouting, micropiles.

Objective

To teach the students the basic principles of static design of concrete and timber structures. Students will be able to solute safely and reliably foundations of overground structures.

Knowledge

Student will master the basic principles of static design of concrete and timber structures. Student will be able to solute safely and reliably foundations of overground structures.

Syllabus

1. Design of concrete elements due to service limit state.
2. Reinforced concrete framed structures.
3. Space floor slab structures - slabs bearing in two directions, grid structure.
4. Foundation structures – pads, continuous footings, rafts, slabs.
5. Properties of a timber and materials on the basis of a timber from the aspect of utilization in building
structures. Czech and foreign standards for the design of structures. Limit states of timber structures.
6. Basic types of stresses of members of timber structures and methodology of their checking. Joints of timber
structures.
7. Plated and truss structures. Space timber structures – lattice structures, space bar systems, ribbed dome, vaulted
and shell structures.
8. Soil properties from the point of view of design of geotechnical structures (soil strength and compressibility).
9. Geostatic stress. Stress from external loading. Bearing capacity and settlement of shallow foundations.
10. Deep foundations - technology, design (drilled piles).
11. Earth pressures - resting, active, passive.
12. Retaining structures - types and basics of design.
13. Micropiles. Jet grouting.
