The course deepens theoretical knowledge and develops practical design skills in the field of water supply engineering and public drinking water supply. The core of the course is the development of a comprehensive project for a small municipality, with each student working on their own individual assignment. Throughout the semester, students will gain detailed knowledge of the entire technological chain: from the design of water abstraction and treatment, through its storage and pumping, to the actual transport of drinking water via a pipeline network. The result of this independent work, which serves as the basis for the final assessment, is a complete set of project documentation. The instruction places a strong emphasis on the application of modern technologies and involves the active use of specialized software tools.

Aims
The aim of the course is to teach students how to develop a basic conceptual solution and a practical design for the drinking water supply of a selected urban area. Through study during the semester, the student will acquire:

- The student will acquire and deepen their understanding of the theoretical principles behind the conceptual design of drinking water supply systems for urbanized areas.
Professional Skills
- The student is able to apply theoretical knowledge to a practical design.
Professional Competences
- The student is capable of comprehensively solving the assigned technical task, from the analysis of input data to the submission of the final technical project. They can practically integrate knowledge of water supply engineering, hydraulics, water chemistry, technical drawing, and utility networks into a single functional unit. They will acquire the competences necessary to design technically sound conceptual solutions for municipal drinking water supply.

Syllabus
- 1. Project assignment, site description, input data, location of water supply system facilities.
- 2. Calculation of water demand.
- 3. Hydraulic analysis of the water supply system – design of the water distribution network.
- 4. Calculation of the usable volume of the water reservoir.
- 5. Sizing and completion of the hydraulic analysis, elevation positioning of the water reservoir.
- 6. Raw water source, site plan of the abstraction area.
- 7. Water reservoir drawing.
- 8. Detailed site plan of the water reservoir.
- 9. General layout of the water distribution network.
- 10. General longitudinal profile of the water distribution network.
- 11. Detailed longitudinal profile of the water distribution network.
- 12. Technical report and project completion.
- 13. Project assessment and course credit.
