Aims
Professional Knowledge
The student:
- explains the principles of fire safety engineering and fire safety requirements for industrial and non-industrial buildings;
- describes the methodology for determining fire risk and economic risk of a building;
- characterizes the requirements for the fire resistance of building structures and their classification;
- explains methods for improving the fire performance of building structures, materials, and products;
- describes the principles of designing and assessing means of escape;
- explains the procedure for determining fire hazardous areas;
- characterizes fire-fighting facilities and equipment and their function within the fire protection system of a building;
- demonstrates knowledge of specific fire safety requirements for selected types of buildings and structures.
Professional Skills
The student is able to:
- determine the fire risk and economic risk of a building;
- design fire safety requirements for building structures;
- propose measures to improve the fire performance of structures and materials;
- design and assess means of escape in compliance with applicable legal and technical regulations;
- determine fire hazardous areas within a building;
- design fire-fighting facilities and equipment according to the building type and operational characteristics;
- prepare fire safety designs for industrial and non-industrial buildings;
- develop fire safety documentation for more complex buildings, including special-purpose structures.
Professional Competence
The student:
- independently prepares a comprehensive fire safety design for a building within the scope required for project documentation;
- integrates fire safety requirements into the design of industrial and non-industrial buildings while considering technical, operational, and economic aspects;
- critically evaluates fire and economic risks and proposes appropriate fire protection measures;
- makes professional decisions regarding the suitability of fire safety measures for specific building projects;
- applies acquired knowledge and skills to complex, non-standard, and special-purpose structures;
- takes responsibility for the technical accuracy of the fire safety design and its compliance with applicable fire safety legislation and standards.

- Legal and normative anchoring of fire safety of buildings, overview of the set of fire safety standards.
- Theory of fire, behaviour of the most important materials in fire.
- Fire safety requirements, fire safety solution of buildings. Technical report of fire safety.
- Fire load, permanent and variable fire load, fire risk.
- Fire compartments and their dimensions, areas without fire risk, fire risk.
- Fire safety degree, fire separating structures.
- Fire strips. Fire protection materials.
- Fire resistance of building structures. Proving the fire resistance of building structures.
- Escape routes - types and their use, their dimensioning, equipment and design. Determination of the number of escaping persons.
- Stand-off distances - definition of the fire dangerous area of the building and determination of the stand-off distance.
- Assurance of fire-fighting intervention, fire water supply, technical and technological equipment.
- Fire safety of buildings for dwelling and lodging.
- Specialist lecture on building practice.

- Fire safety of buildings – drawings. Assignment of a semester project.
- Principles for dividing the building into fire compartments.
- Calculation of fire risk.
- Determination of the fire safety degree and limit dimensions of fire compartments
- Determination of requirements for fire resistance of structures.
- Determination of the actual fire resistance of building structures.
- Design and dimensioning of escape routes.
- Determination of stand-off distances.
- Fire water supply.
- Requirements for technical and technological equipment. Design of fire safety equipment. Final correction of the semester project.
