Construction industry leaders meet to address labour shortage

The content is archived. Information may be outdated or misleading.

At the traditional meeting of construction industry leaders, which took place on 21 November 2024 at Prague Castle, the issue of the lack of workforce in the construction industry was addressed in addition to the currently pressing topic of digitalization of the construction industry. The results of a survey among employers in the construction sector were presented at the meeting, which showed, among other things, that 61% of companies do not have sufficient staff capacity to realise their ambitions in the field of decarbonisation and energy efficiency. The Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the BUT, Prof. Drochytka, presented the decline in the number of graduates of civil engineering faculties over the past ten years, but at the same time he gave the encouraging information that this year we have seen a significant increase in the number of students enrolled in the first year of bachelor degree programmes. The future high employability of our graduates in the labour market is one of the most important factors why graduates choose to study at the Faculty of Civil Engineering. The meeting of leaders in the construction industry, organised by CEEC Research, was also attended by our students of surveying and urban engineering. The chairwoman of the student chamber of the academic senate Bc. Radka Juránková spoke during the discussion and urged the representatives of companies to provide more support for internships for students. The present representatives from companies responded positively to this call. There was a general consensus that the demand for construction specialists is high. The most frequently demanded specialisations are construction manager, civil engineering designer, economist-preparator, construction and transport engineering and HVAC.
