Brno Style Exhibition in Israel

The content is archived. Information may be outdated or misleading.

Modernist architecture took several forms. However, functionalism, which arose more than a century ago, proved to be mainstream. Its ideas were so strong that many architects follow them to this day. The city of Brno has a unique place in the development of functionalist architecture, as it was here that the famous Villa Tugendhat, designed by the genius Ludwig Mies van der Roh, was built. This timeless building, a Unesco monument in the Czech Republic, still has a magical influence on architects far beyond the borders of Brno. Thanks to this unique building and many others, a connection between Brno and Tel Aviv is created, as both cities were built in the spirit of "white functionalism."

The unique heritage of Brno's modernist architecture also shapes the work of Brno native architect Jiří Gerö, born in 1977. He is a graduate of the Brno Faculty of Architecture, having also studied in Marseille, France. In 2006, he founded his architectural office and also works as an academic at the Institute of Architecture of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of Brno University of Technology.

The exhibition consists of 25 projects that represent the current trends in Brno modernist architecture. It includes family houses, apartment sets, production plants, sports facilities, multifunctional buildings, school buildings and also reconstruction of houses. The projects show how simple, purist but imaginative creation develops the famous modernist architecture of the 1930s. Architectural office Gerö tries to create timeless works and continue Brno modernism in a contemporary way.

The opening of the exhibition Contemporary modernism by architect Jiří Gerö will take place on July 31, 2022 at 19:30 in Bauhaus Center Tel Aviv, 77 Dizengoff st., Tel Aviv, Israel.

The exhibition will run until August 31, 2022. Entrance is free.
