16. 5. 2023 - BUT invites to a round table on Technology versus Ethics

The content is archived. Information may be outdated or misleading.

The impact and contribution of technology today needs to be seen not only in terms of human progress in science and technology. It must also be seen through the lens of how it specifically affects human society and what direction its development should take. That is why Brno University of Technology (BUT) is organising a round table on Technology versus Ethics: Changes in the Social Responsibility of Educational Institutions, which will take place on 16 May 2023 at 4 pm in the Rector's Hall of BUT.

All students and employees of the university and the professional public are cordially invited, as well as anyone who is interested in the topic and wants to broaden their horizons on the subject. The aim of the debate is to reveal a wide range of views on the issue from different perspectives. Leading experts will discuss obscure and controversial links on the topic, with the aim of reaching a conclusion on what role technology, and therefore also educational institutions with a technical focus, should have in society.

Moderator Sonia Baranová will guide the guests through the debate and the following experts will sit together at a round table: Mathematician and astrophysicist Miloslav Druckmüller, physician and researcher in the field of regenerative medicine Břetislav Lipový, sociologist with a focus on class and inequality Kateřina Nedbálková, Lukáš Pilka, digital designer and media theorist, Ladislav Janíček, rector of the Brno University of Technology and aeronautical engineer, and Ivo Štěpánek, director of the Technical Museum in Brno and chairman of the Commission of Conservators and Restorers of the Association of Museums and Galleries of the Czech Republic.
