BUT Achieves the Highest Research Rating. FCE BUT Contributes Through Research Excellence and Preparing Students for Professional Practice
(Press Release, Brno, 10 June 2026) Brno University of Technology (BUT) has become the only technical university to advance to the highest category A in the national evaluation of research organisations. In the university's internal evaluation, the Faculty of Civil Engineering achieved the second-highest ranking among BUT's constituent units.
The evaluation is conducted under Methodology 25+, and its results directly influence the allocation of institutional funding to universities. It is therefore not merely a prestigious recognition, but also has a tangible impact on the funding and development of the university as a whole.
The Faculty of Civil Engineering ranked second among BUT's faculties, immediately behind the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. It thus made a significant contribution to the university's highest rating, not only through its consistently high-quality research results and knowledge transfer activities, but also through its ability to prepare students effectively for professional practice. This is reflected in the fact that approximately 84% of students secure qualified employment while still studying.
“I am delighted that the Faculty of Civil Engineering has made such a significant contribution to BUT's overall A rating. This achievement is the result of many years of dedicated work by people across the entire faculty and builds on the efforts of previous faculty leadership teams. It confirms the high quality of our research, its international impact, and our ability to translate research findings into everyday construction practice,” says Karel Šuhajda, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at BUT.
“I am also pleased that the evaluation highlights the transformation of our Civil Engineering study programme into a modern three-year bachelor's degree programme as an example of good practice. I consider the combination of high-quality research, modern teaching, and strong links with professional practice to be one of our faculty's greatest strengths,” he adds.
The university-wide evaluation results confirm that the Faculty of Civil Engineering is moving in the right direction, while also reinforcing its commitment to continuing work that delivers valuable outcomes for science, the construction industry, and society.
Category A represents the highest possible rating for a research organisation within the national evaluation system.
