Program: Civil Engineering

Profile

The Civil Engineering Structures and Traffic Constructions branch of the trimestral consecutive master’s study programme Civil Engineering follows on from four-year bachelor’s courses of a technical nature. The course starts with a common block of subjects and then, during the first year, is divided into two specialisations – Structures and Traffic Constructions. While studying the common block of subjects, students acquire knowledge of the latest scientific and technical findings in all their complex mutual interconnectivity, and they are guided towards the performance of independent creative engineering work. They apply the knowledge acquired in the individual subjects in individually assigned construction and technical tasks concerning the issues of the given field of study. Great emphasis is placed on independent and creative engineering work. After completing the common block of subjects, they are able to solve even demanding specialised issues independently and are thus ready for their narrower focus on the specialisation studied in the subsequent block of their consecutive master´s studies.

Learning outcomes

After completing the common block of the Structures and Traffic Structures course of study, which doesn’t focus on any particular discipline, students have gained highly specialised (theoretical and professional) knowledge in the studied field. They are capable of applying this knowledge in the solution of problems within the given field of study. They are capable, within the scope of the skills they have gained, of independently solving even demanding specialised problems (independently solving complex engineering, technical and managerial problems in the construction industry), and are thus prepared for the subsequent block of studies in the selected specialisation. They begin the next (specialised) block of studies equipped with the prerequisites for the solution of even complex technical problems, and not only during the comprehensive design of load-bearing structures (bridges or engineering structures) but also during the preparation and realization of such structures. Within the scope of their competence (after the completion of the common block of subjects), they can study one of the two specialisations, Structures or Traffic Constructions, within the framework of the Structures and Traffic Constructions study specialisation.
