BACKGROUND

The sustainable development of the building industry along with new applications requires concretes with specific properties. These concretes prove their usefulness in laboratory tests, but difficulties arise in their practical application and in behaviour prediction as they diverge from common routines, norms and recommendations. The bringing of non-traditional concretes into everyday use therefore represents an interdisciplinary problem. This symposium will focus on the exchange of experience acquired during research into these materials, and their preparation, testing and application.

We know that today’s non-traditional cements and concretes may become traditional tomorrow. It would be a wonderful thing if even this symposium contributed its share towards this goal.

ORGANISATION OF THE SYMPOSIUM

The symposium is organised by Brno University of Technology and ZPSV, a.s. (Railway Industrial Building Production), and it is supported by the Czech Concrete Society (CBS). This partnership between the University and the production company demonstrates that the symposium is focused on both theoretical and practical problems in the field of non-traditional cements and concretes (NTCC) within the activities of the CIDEAS research centre (1M0579).

LOCATION – BRNO CITY AND TRANSPORT INFORMATION

The 3rd International symposium Non-Traditional Cement and Concrete will be held from 10th to 12th June 2008 in Brno. Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic and the metropolis of South Moravia. About 400.000 people live there. There are a lot of cultural and other sights (see for example http://www.brno.cz/).

Brno is located 200 km from Prague and 150 km from Vienna (Austria). There are international airports in the cities. A lot of express trains and buses connect these cities with Brno.

Brno also has international airport but only with connection to Prague and limited number of international flights (Moscow, Barcelona, London), but there are also some charter flights – see http://www.airport-brno.cz/.

The symposium will be held in Hotel Continental Brno, Kounicova 6, 602 00 Brno, Czech Republic http://www.continentalbrno.cz/. The special prices are offered for the symposium visitors. Please, write the “NTCC” code into reservation form.


REGISTRATION FEE

The registration fee will be 350 EUROS. The fee includes the proceedings, dinners, and coffee at breaks, as well as cultural events and banquets.

The two-day post symposium trip is planned to South Bohemia. The preliminary programme includes:
Friday 
  Třebíč – St. Procopius Basilica – UNESCO protected monument
  Telč – UNESCO protected square, castle, park – lunch
  Nové Hrady (in South Bohemia), accommodation in quest-house Hamr, walking through the English-style park Tereziino udoli, dinner
Saturday 
  Český Krumlov – UNESCO protected city center – great castle, walking in the park, lunch
  Transport to Prague through some typical South Bohemian village

The price of the trip will be about 120 EUROS.

The accompanying persons programme will be 100 EUROS (including lunches and social programme).
