Grants and projects in numbers

The level of results of scientific research of FCE employees determines national and international prestige of the Faculty. It is necessary to train students in such a way that they are able to design and realise similar projects as e.g. the building of the new opera in Valencia or the Australian miracle designed by Jorn Utzon. Results of scientific research are also a significant source of finance for the FCE.

The main areas of creative, research and development activities stem from the long-term conception of the Faculty progress defined in the Long-term plan of the Faculty of Civil-Engineering of BUT. The most significant areas are:

  • Analysis, methods of design, verification and identification of building structures under static and dynamic stress, from the point of view of their life cycle,
  • development, evaluation, verification and calibration of designing method,
  • new usage of structures made of traditional materials,
  • creation and development of auto-adaptable composite structures,
  • determinist and stochastic models of stationary and non-stationary phenomena and processes,
  • progressive building materials using secondary raw materials,
  • reliability and risk analysis of water management systems and constructions,
  • development of theoretical models, making expert systems,
  • drinking water supply, drainage of urbanised areas, analysis of flood areas, hydrotechnical constructions,
  • improving the quality of inner environment of buildings,
  • development of new constructions and methods of designing buildings in terms of criteria and principles of permanently sustainable progress, optimising designs,
  • integrated technologies for engineering geodesy and digital mapping,
  • complex and vaguely defined engineering systems (theories, modelling and applying results),
  • and development of economic tools for optimum designs and realisation of constructions.

Scientific and creative work of academic and creative employees of FCE is financed from various sources.

One of the sources of financing science at the FCE is purposeful financing of research, which covers projects of the system of Czech Science Foundation (GA CR) and the Ministries of Industry and Commerce (MPO), Transport and Communications MDS), Environment (MŽP), and Agriculture (MZe). The second source is the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MSMT) via Universities Development Fund (FRVS), Research Purposes (VZ) and Development Programmes (RP). The third source is international grants and projects, e.g. Bilateral Co-operation, Frame Programmes, European Programmes for Support and Research, etc. The fourth source consists of other ways of getting money for research.
